SUNDAY AM update

Freezing rain and possibly some sleet will be an issue across NE OK. NW Benton county (Maysville, Gravette, Bella Vista) may see a little freezing rain as well, though temperatures look to hover just above freezing for most of our area. We have had reports from Joplin, MO of freezing rain causing power outages and tree limb damage. The heaviest of the wintry precipitation will remain to our North and West, paralleling the I-44 corridor. The black and white Satellite image highlights a band of convection just north of OK City. Interestingly, temperatures are below freezing in this particular area and there's been lightning and thunder. Observations in the area have just picked up on some freezing rain, though it's possible that there may be some thunder sleet or snow with this fetch!

We are looking at a lot of rain. Expect rain, heavy at times, to last through Wednesday as a series of disturbances pass through our area. Totals for the entire event may top 4" in places. This first bout appears to have the most cold air to work with. Tuesday should just be a cold rain for everyone and by the time we clear out late on Wednesday, NE OK and NW AR may go over to a wintry mix or perhaps a little light snow. Some very cold air looks to drop in from Canada towards the weekend. This may set the stage for some snow in about a weeks time.
