Latest Freezing Rain Update

We're now using the 0Z NAM data as an analysis tool for our upcoming upper level storm. The NAM goes out to 84 hours, which will take us to Monday around 6 a.m. Right now the coldest surface air is forecast across western Kansas. With on going rainfall, we can expect some evaporational cooling to take place, which would drop surface temperatures by a few more degrees. If any icing does occur it will be across extreme NE OK Extracted surface data shows temperatures by Monday morning remaining in the 40's, so the icing threat still remains to the northwest of the viewing area.

The map above shows the area where the greatest icing will occur. A significant ice storm may take place over Kansas late Sunday night into Monday morning.
