Major Warmth for Saturday

Springtime looks to make a quick return by the weekend. An impressive longwave trough shown above will dig across the west coast, allowing for a major warming trend to take place this weekend across the plains.

The key to our warmth is in the shape of the trough, notice how symmetrical the trough is; moreover, the energy on the west side of the trough compared to the east side of the trough is relatively equal, which means the trough's position will stay the same. If the trough stays west, we'll continue to reap the benefits of a mild southerly flow aloft.

So just how warm are we looking? 850 mb temperatures are expected to near 18 degrees Celsius, which would indicate the potential for surface temperatures reaching the 70's! In addition to the warmth, the strong southwesterly flow aloft will also help to fuel breezy conditions at the surface.

The trough does look to move our way by the start of next week, and that will provide better chances for precipitation. More on that to come!
