More *I**C**E* Moving In...

A band of moderate freezing rain, sleet and snow is just off to the west our area. This will be the last concentrated bout of precipitation that will move through, in association with this system since it began over 48hours ago. We also will the have largest area of cold air in place as it moves in. Right now temps across NW AR in large have slipped below freezing. The River valley is precariously close, at 36 in Fort Smith, but points westward are at freezing and below.

McAlester, Talihina, Wilburton, Eufaula, Tahlequah, Jay and Grove are all getting freezing rain right now. This last hoorah could put as much as an additional half inch of ice on top of areas that have already seen damaging accumulation. We’ll transition into a steadier cooling throughout the day on Monday as we dry out, though a few flakes of snow could be flying as more and more cold air works in.

Monday morning will be tough, travel and road wise. Roads have already been collecting ice in many locations north and westward. As we head into tomorrow, many of us will not get above freezing. Undoubtedly, this will make for a difficult clean up and some slick roads.

We can’t thank you enough for all of the reports.

Virtually the entire area now with the exception of Mena and Mount Ida are either experiencing freezing rain or sleet. We watched the freezing line move south from Cedarville to Van Buren by 1AM then into the northern side of Fort Smith by 2AM. The airport is currently at 33 though I have 30.8 at 40/29 right now, make that 30.4. Thankyou all for the continued reports and keep them coming!

My husband crossed the interstate bridge from Van Buren to Fort Smith at about 4:10 AM, and it's pretty slippery. Be safe going to work, everyone!

Temperature at the station continues to drop and is now down to 28.6. The aiport has recently dropped to 30.6. Bridges and overpasses the next few hours will quickly turn to a sheet of ice in the river valley with secondary roads becoming icy as well. Most of the precipitation is over in Fort Smith, though we could see a bit more light sleet and freezing drizzle through 5AM. Freezing rain will continue from Ozark to Clarksville south to Booneville and Waldron through 6AM with additional ice accumulations of 0.05" inches. Northwest Arkansas and northeast Oklahoma will be dry, though all roads are icy with temperatures steady in the lower 20s.
