Latest Model Run...
The latest 0Z run of the GFS continues to hold the cold air north of our area until Sunday. We're still holding to the idea that the shallow nature of the arctic air will undercut the warm air aloft, creating a freezing rain scenario for Saturday night. If this scenario plays out, substantial ice accumulation will occur. We'll have plenty of moisture in place, so the cold air continues to be the major question. 1 to 3 inches of rain is still expected.
Temperatures in central Canada are hovering around 0! Regardless of the winter weather potential, this air will be a shock to all of us. We'll go from highs in the 50s and 60s on Thursday, down into the 20s and 30s for Sunday and Monday.

I think the western fringe counties have the best chance at frz precip, Im thinking those are Muskogee, and Cherokee counties. I know Ive watched channel 40 in Tahlequah while on the road with my little tv. I hope all of us can get the winter weather though. btw..Im not a pro, just someone that has an intrest in weather.
We appreciate your thoughts..and it sounds like you have some experience as well. I agree to start the fringe counties will likely see the most freezing rain, but as the cold air moves through on Saturday, you have to include NW AR in that equation as well.
Drew,
So if the freezing rain starts on Saturday, will anything accumulate on the roads? I was planning a trip and wouldn't be returning until mid-day on Sunday. Thanks!!
If the freezing rain does accumulate, we're talking most likely Saturday night. We could have slick spots into Sunday, but road crews will be on call this weekend, so major roads should be fine.
