Latest Thinking...Ice Storm!

I have looked over the latest OZ run of the NAM, and just as we have been thinking, the computer model has developed a colder solution. The model is handling the cold air very well, so confidence is running pretty high. This could mean significant ice accumulations throughout parts of our viewing area. The cold air will move in throughout the day tomorrow, dropping temperatures into the upper 30s and low to mid 40s toward sunset. Here are the counties that have the greatest chance for ice accumulation from 1/4" of an inch to 1 inch through the weekend......

Benton, Delaware, Adair, Cherokee, Muskogee, McIntosh, Pittsburg Counties

If you live in these counties, please prepare for a major ice storm this weekend. Significant tree and power line damage will be possible.

Thanks for the update Drew I agree with you.. but also do think the western half of Sequoyah and Haskell counties have as good a chance of ice as Adair and Benton counties do. I think In Oklahoma Hwy 59 west has a good threat of Ice.. In Arkansas, Tunnel north. Its going to such a close call for many areas.. Thanks for keeping us updated.

I think we can all agree that this is a "Winter Storm"!!!!!

The freezing rain looks to push just a bit further south and east now as this Arctic airmass is blowing the models away. The arctic front is moving in some 8-10 hours faster than forecasted by the forecast models and the air is colder than forecasted as well.

This spells a potentially dangerous go of it in northwest Arkansas and northeast Oklahoma.

This is definitely a winter storm, even though we will see little if any snow out of this system.
