An Active Afternoon

Low level convergence ( a gathering of winds and air) at low levels in the atmosphere and upper level divergence ( a separating of winds and air) at upper levels of the atmosphere over our area has helped a steady stream of thunderstorms to blossom. The map above highlights this region of lift across SE OK and NW and central western AR. Most of the storms have been in line segments. The main threat will be gusty winds and small hail though; any storm that becomes somewhat detached or isolated from a line has the potential to produce a tornado. The threat of flash flooding will likely carry into the overnight period too, as many areas are seeing a continuous bout of heavy precipitation producing storms. Be smart and be safe out on the roads if you must travel.
