SOUTHERN AREA MOST ACTIVE

Check out the plume of blue stretching from the Pacific ocean, across the Baja and directly into our southern area. This "feed" of moisture is what has brought in light sleet and freezing rain. Note how there's an absence of water vapor in the panhandle region of TX and OK. This marks the clearing line which is continuing to push eastward. Pockets of light freezing rain can still be expected across our area, though the heaviest precipitation is pushing eastward and to our south.

I checked in with Queen Wilhelmina State Park ( elevation 2600') near Mena, and the roads had a white haze to them with sleet and freezing rain falling. The trough to the west still is somewhat stationary with a stubborn closed Low spinning in the base. A push from the Northern branch of the jetstream looks to get it moving and depending upon timing, a strong batch of thunderstorms may erupt as it passes through on Monday. Further upstream, yet another wave looks to bring the threat of a rain to snow event on Thursday. This one is presently advertised in some of the long-range models as something to watch... busy, busy, busy!

Please take it easy on the roads if you must travel and DRIVE SLOW!
