SPLIT FLOW

g Northern Branch of Jetstream

g Southern Branch of Jetstream (Sub-Tropical Jet)

The Pacific is quite active with jet energy though it more or less is running due east to west. A cut-off feature off the California coast is helping direct some of this energy southward before it pushes into the southwestern US. The rest of the energy is pushing into Canada. This split flow has in part developed some interesting features over the central plains and mid-south. With a broad ridge aloft, centered over Texas, flow has been clockwise around the High and a series of systems have been cycling around the periphery. A good bit of pacific moisture continues to funnel in and the aforementioned waves or weather systems, have helped carry it around the high. Showers and thunderstorms have been off and on just 100 miles to our north all day today and some clouds have spilled across our area too from the latest trough.

The whole pattern looks to shift westward and as it does rain chances here will go up. At this point Tuesday night into Wednesday looks like the most likely period for some rain in the short term. A few of the Global models have been trying to develop something in the Gulf for late in the week, but, for now we'll leave that for a another blog post.

Have a great week!
