A Cold Front's Coming, What??????

We're finally transitioning from talking about this cut off low over Texas to a cold front just to our North. Yeah that's right, I said a cold front. Will we see a cool down, well, not exactly. In fact, we'll likely warm up a little bit, so how does that work?
Right now a trough is pushing across the Pacific Northwest, and this disturbance will push a cold front across our area. Typically a cold front is meant to show the leading edge of cold air on a weather map; however, a cold front can also mean a wind shift, which is what we'll be seeing over the next couple of days.
Instead of the front coming through and clearing us completely out, it will likely provide a focus for more afternoon showers and storms. Convergence along the front will create the added lift needed to encourage afternoon thunderstorm development. By the way, it's very rare to see a cold front march all the way through our area during the summer months. We'll continue slight chances for afternoon storms through the weekend. Have a safe 4th of July!
