Noon Severe Weather Update

Ample sunshine will allow temperatures to climb into the upper 60s and low to mid 70s this afternoon. Right now the moisture is starting to surge across Texas into extreme SE OK and SW AR; however, until the 50 degree dewpoints move north, we'll see a quiet afternoon.
Current dewpoints are only in the 30s and 40s, and that type of moisture isn't deep enough to produce severe weather. As the surface low to our west deepens, an increase in moisture will advect across our area by evening. Combine the moisture with peak heating, and a shortwave aloft, we'll expect showers and storms to develop after 5 p.m.
The severe threat for tonight will most likely be confined across SE OK and SW AR where the deeper moisture exists. Large hail will be the primary severe weather threat today; however, with a dry layer present at 700 mb, strong gusty winds can't be ruled our either.
We'll continue to update you throughout the day.
