Severe Weather Chances?????

My goodness, tomorrow morning will likely be the coldest morning of the fall so far, and we're mentioning severe weather chances in the 7 day forecast. So what's the big weather story? If you're new to the area, sometimes we have many weather headlines to share, so after we focus on the cold, we'll be talking about spring-like thunderstorms.

Now remember, this is still 6 days out, so we'll be fine tuning this forecast as we go along. Look at the picture I have included above. This is a major ball of vorticity that will be heading our way for Monday. The winds around this vort are very impressive, and they could provide an extreme amount of lift to support showers and storms.

Moisture will be moving back across our area on Saturday and Sunday on strong southerly winds. This moisture will interact with this disturbance for the possibility of showers and storms.

So what about the severe weather? It's plausible to think that a vort this strong will provide a decent amount of wind shear, or the turning of the winds with height. Wind shear combined with moisture could spark a line of severe thunderstorms. We'll be watching this develop and updating the blog with future articles.

In addition to the lift, look at the cold air this vort drags in behind it. A cold frontal boundary will also provide a focus for the development of showers and storms. A lot of ingredients are being hinted at, but we're still too far out. More to come!
