TORNADO WATCH & WARNING-MCDONALD COUNTY

EFFECTIVE THIS MONDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 405 PM UNTIL 1000 PM CST. TORNADOES...HAIL TO 2.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THIS AREA.

We presently have a Tornado Warning in McDonald County, MO, which is out until 5:15 PM. Within the parent thunderstorm, large hail, damging winds up to 70 mph and frequent lightning can be expected. Storm motion is to the NNE at 30 to 40 mph.

As the nose of a jetstreak embedded within the trough to our west pushes into our area later tonight, activity will likely ramp up. As of now, the 9:00 PM to 1:00 AM window looks to be most active. As cold air aloft moves in aloft, the atmosphere will further destabilize and thunderstorm development will have the potential to happen quickly. Due to the amount of wind shear, any discreet cell has the potential to become tornadic.
