Records Will Fall

What a soggy 24 hour period! Heavy rainfall impacted the entire viewing area, especially near Ft. Smith and Greenwood, where over 6 inches of rain was reported. I want to take a closer look at the Ft. Smith total of 6.48".

This total sets a new record for the month of October. The previous record in a 24 hour period was 5.90".

Ft. Smith has a chance to break yet another record for the month. The record total rainfall for the entire month of October is 12.04 inches, and Ft. Smith is already over 6.50". We're just 3 days into the month, and more rainfall returns to the forecast over the weekend. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the month plays out.
