FELIX CAT5

This is now the second CAT5 storm of the 2007 Atlantic tropical season. Sustained winds are now at 165 mph with gusts as high as 200 mph. What’s most interesting about this present state of Felix comes from the latest Hurricane Hunters report…

"BECAUSE OF THE EXTREME TURBULENCE AND GROUPEL THAT THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED...THE MISSION IS BEING ABORTED AND THE AIRCRAFT IS RETURNING TO ST. CROIX."

Groupel magnified many times looks like this. It forms when snow crystals pass through super-cooled water droplets. It sort of resembles small mushy hail.
