GREENSBURG EF5 RELATIVE VELOCITY COUPLET
This is a picture of what the tornado that hit Greensburg, KS looked like on a radar screen that was in "storm relative velocity mode" or SRV, just prior to moving through the town. The red hues indicate wind blowing away from the radar site (Dodge City) and the green are indicative of wind blowing towards. The pixels that are right next to each other, orange to blue, mark intense winds going in different directions. This signature of gate to gate wind shear marks the location of the tornado.
